TABLE TO TABLE: INSIDE THE WHINO’S STUDIO WITH JAMIE FROM THE SORTING TABLE

Last week Wendy Rock from Heidelberg came by with our good friend and one of Shannon’s travel buddies, Jaime from the Sorting Table, an importer of some amazing French, Italian and Australian wines:

Triennes Rosé VDP du Var 2010.  Grade=Outstanding.  This wonderful, delicate blush is dry and lively with light notes of strawberry and watermelon, a hint of mineral and a pinch of mint and basil.  Very nice.

St. Michael-Eppan Pinot Bianco Alto Adige 2009.  Grade=Outstanding.  Remarkable white wine from Northern Italy, this light-to medium-bodied white, with almond, mineral and stone fruit notes.

Zind Humbrecht Pinot Blanc Alsace 2008.  Grade=Outstanding+.  Much more minerally and possessing nice white spices, some honeyed ginger and carmelized pear notes than the St. Michael-Eppan.  Some time in the bottle has given it extra depth.

Expression 38° Chardonnay Sonoma Coast 2008.  Grade=Outstanding+.  Really stunning Sonoma Chardonnay with beautiful notes of tropical fruits, slight hints of nutmeg, and creamy vanilla and crème brulee underpinnings.  Supple across the palate with a sensuous finish.

Momo Pinot Noir Marlborough 2009.  Grade=Outstanding.  Tart red cherry and cinnamon stick throughout this very earthy and dry New Zealand Pinot Noir.  Finishes monochromatically.

Expression 44° Pinot Noir Eola-Amity Hills 2009.  Grade=Outstanding.  Much more complex than the Momo, this beautifully-crafted Oregon PN possesses pretty red flowers, dark cherry, cola nut, sandalwood and cinnamon tea characters.  Medium-bodied.  Nice soft tannins and a bright cherry finish.

Poggio Antico Brunello di Montalcino 2005.  Grade=Amazing.  Smoldering black fruits, cedar smoke, cocoa, cigar box, cured tobacco leaves, olives, and slight rosemary and black pepper undertones.  Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and good grip on the palate.

Substance Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley 2009.  Grade=Outstanding.  Black raspberries, chocolate, coffee, licorice, creamy oak and black currant notes from start-to-finish in this juicy, rich Cab from Washington State.

Janzen Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2007.  Grade=Outstanding+.  A very sexy Cab revealing decadent chocolate-covered blackberries, cocoa-dusted black currants, dark plums, tobacco smoke, mineral, sage, mint, toasted oak and milk chocolate undertones.
