MAN OF GOLDEN WORDS: FROM WASHINGTON STATE WITH SHINE: TWO TO REVIEW FROM J. BOOKWALTER

I got a little care package from UPS today courtesy of my wine brother from another mother, the illustrious John Bookwalter of Bookwalter Winery fame.   Here in Kentucky, we are never able to get a hold of any of John’s white wines – which seemingly get even better press than his reds do.  Recently, John has reached out to change that, offering two incredible whites, one of which is brand new:

Bookwalter Notebook Riesling Columbia Valley 2011.  Grade=Outstanding.  Reminiscent of an Alsace Riesling, or perhaps something from Eden Valley, in that it is an extremely dry and minerally Riesling, showing off very cool white currant, lime and Chinese Five Spice notes, a touch of dragon fruit, flint and quince.

Bookwalter Couplet Chardonnay-Viognier Columbia Valley 2011.  Grade=Outstanding+.  Incredible blend of 61% Chardonnay and 39% Viognier, displaying supple stone fruit, white flower, ginger shavings, pineapple and apricot.  Finishes airy and dry.
