Part of Dr. Gonzo’s assorted sample box were four wines from one of my favorite Napa producers, Flora Springs:
Flora Springs Chardonnay Napa Valley 2009. Grade=Outstanding. Medium-bodied white wine with hints of stone fruits, popcorn, crème brulee and vanilla bean.
Flora Springs Merlot Napa Valley 2009. Grade=Outstanding. Lovely, medium-to-full-bodied red with dense blue fruits, brown spices, cedar and mint. Well-balanced, supple and smooth through to the finish.
Flora Springs Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2008. Grade=Amazing. A big, bold Cab packed with dense notes of blackberries, cassis, mint and pepper, firm tannins, and nuances of dark chocolate, tobacco and spice.
Flora Springs Trilogy Napa Valley 2008. Grade=Amazing. This gorgeous Bordeaux-styled red blend is layered with red and black berry fruits, cracked black pepper, tobacco, truffle, and sage notes. Full-bodied, voluptuous mouthfeel and smooth, supple tannins give this wine a lot of heft, yet it demonstrates considerable finesse across the palate.
